Kenduri at Rantau

Last Sunday afternoon, 26th August 2007, we attended a kenduri at Rantau. It was held as a 'aqiqah' and 'tahlil arwah' by Wan Acik and family. By the way, Wan Acik is Wan Rantau's elder sister.

In the menu for the afternoon, they prepared nasi minyak and plain white rice to go with kari kambing, dalca, fried chicken, kacang & udang masak lemak to name a few. Yummy-yummy...but not for me yet.

The weather was nice with blue sky; unlike the weekend we had to endure with the heavy downpour at Rembau for the wedding invite. It was a simple ceremony headed by Tn Imam Hj A Rahman Deli, the Imam of the local qariah mosque.

After the tahlil and doa selamat, guests were ushered to the tent erected outside for the afternoon feast. The men ate first followed by the womenfolks...I wonder what happened to 'ladies first' thingy.

Here are shots by Pa from the event.

Wan Acik's house is next to a fish pond...what a nice location

Back in the house, I had my second helping of the porridge

When all is over...its cleaning time and I am ready to give Wan a helping hand

A pat on the head from Ma for being a helpful daughter

By 4.00pm Pa had to excuse himself to go back to Rembau to pick Wan Rembau to visit a relative who was hospitalised with kidney problem...both kidneys! Hope all is well.

I went back with Ma and Wan later in the evening.

Ceremony at Bongek...Langsung & Bersanding

Sunday, 19th August...we made it to Bongek after the rain had stopped. We missed the berarak and kompang in Pedas due to the rain. And we missed this one at Bongek too. Well, just not my day. Perhaps next time I'd be able to see the berarak and kompang...now who's getting married next?

The bersanding and merenjis ceremony was over too. Hmmm...whats left for me to see and do? Never fear...Pa & Ma and Mami are here. They'll cook up something, I'm sure.

As soon as we arrived, we were ushered to the khemah for the makan...buffet style. We had lots of space as the main crowd/ guests have all dispersed, probably to another kenduri like we did. After makan, we went in to see the pelamin, pengantin etc.

We stayed till about 4.30pm as Pa wanted to do a pit stop at his kampung to see Wan and the rest of the family members who are back to do some spring cleaning of the kampung house.

So, here are the pics at the Bongek occasion.

The Pelamin...minus the Pengantin

Here they are...the Bride & Groom

Huh! No sweat Ma.

We managed to convince the pengantins for a group shot.

...and finally the pengantin lama

Despite missing some important event of the occasion, we truly enjoyed ourselves among the friendly company of uncle Li's family members.

Thanks uncle Li, Mami and all the family members...and Selamat Pengantin Baru to the newly wed.

Ceremony at Bongek...Nikah

Last Saturday night, 18 August 2007 we were at Bongek to attend the Akad Nikah ceremony of Uncle Li's sister. We left Rantau after Magrib prayers with Wan and Atuk joining us; Atuk is not very confident doing night driving.

When we got to Bongek, we noticed that everyone were just waiting...for who? It turned out that the Kadi is having a kenduri at his home; a last minute arrangement. The akad nikah ceremony eventually only started at 10.00 pm and with some photo sessions, the event ended about 1.00 am.

We left about 11.00 pm since we had to go back to our Seremban home after sending Wan & Atuk back to Rantau.

Lets look at some pics from the night.

One for the album...as usual

It was definitely a tiring evening that I immediately fell asleep as soon as we got in the car. Next we will see the bersanding ceremony on Sunday.

Bye for now.

Wedding at Pedas

On Sunday afternoon 19 August recently, the 3 of us attended Pa's officemate wedding in Pedas; the town many relate to the hotspring.

We left our Seremban house in a slight drizzle, hoping it does not turn into a downpour. Our hopes were dashed, we were in one heavy downpour when we reached Pedas at about 1.00pm. We stayed in the car a while hoping for the rain to stop or at least reduce to a drizzle but God has better plans. So, we had no choice but use an umbrella each to get to the 'khemah'...even the present had to wait.

All the guests were taking shelter under the 'khemah' leaving no room for us...well we had a better option; we went straight into the house.

After some photo sessions and 'merenjis' ceremony, we headed for the food when the rain had stopped. Its the usual kenduri fare...beef curry, chicken, dalca etc.

We did not stay long for we had another wedding to attend to...also in Rembau.

So, here are snapshots at Pedas wedding...

A typical Malay Wedding Bersanding...the pengapit (guy) is Pa's officemate too

Just the Two of them

Amin...doa recited by the groom's uncle

The traditional take-away gift from the wedding

When we left Pedas, the rain has stopped. After handing the present, we headed for Bongek for the other wedding kenduri.

That'll be in another post.

School Term Break...Kenduri Time

Its the school term break again...another week of 'NO SCHOOL'. Not that it matters much to me; well it actually does in a way affect my weekends activities.

2 kenduri have been slotted for this weekend; both on Sunday. One in Pedas, Pa's officmate getting married and the other in Bongek, Uncle Li's sister getting married.

Pa has to attend both starting with the Pedas occasion followed by Bongek. Pics for the occasion shall be posted in separate thread.

See Ya later.

Local Fruit...update

In the spirit of Merdeka...our 50th...lets look at some of the things we love about Malaysia. Here we concentrate on local fruits, some seasonal and some all-year round.

Now, who doesn't recognise or love this 'king of fruits' durians? Maybe a handful of people out there dislike them for the smell. This ones were bought by the roadside at cheap rate of RM3 per kg. Pa & Ma quietly enjoyed their durian party while I was asleep.

Can recognise the species...kampung?...D24?

The party is on

A closer view of the yummy stuff

Another one...

...and another.

Meanwhile, the dukung is ready for the picking at Ma's kampung in Rantau

So is the rambai

'Cempedak' is very much in season now...very cheap. These were given free...by Ma's relative

This is the 'mata kucing' arwah Atuk Rembau planted...also bearing fruits.

'Mangga'...nice if made into kerabu.

Isn't it nice to be here with all these fruits to enjoy?
